His birth in the manger was only the start
the crib lies empty today
He brought joy to all the earth
but He knew He could not stay



As He lay there in swaddling clothes
the shepherds were declaring His birth
Telling the world that had waited so long
that the Savior has come to earth



Wise men would come from afar
as gifts for the child they would bring
But a far greater gift our EMMANUEL
throughout the ages would ring



Let us return to that lowly manger
and rejoice because of His birth
We now have hope of life everlasting
because God sent His Son to earth
