This day I want to ponder
Why you, and what you are to me,
Is it only all, the more you give
Or what it is, for me to be.
Do I love you just because
You come home every night,
Or how, for me, you're always there
In case I get a fright.
Might I consider you a clever friend
Because I ask for good advice,
When I have a curly problem
And you guide me very wise.
Am I being glad your very presence
Is a strength on which to lean,
Is it that I love your hearty laugh
And how you tickle me.
Do I rely on you as close to God
To bravely face the day,
If you were as any other dad
Would I love you anyway.
I sure know I need your fatherhood
Your deep voice and manly traits,
I'm just glad God gave you me
Within your heart always.

Poetry From The Heart
My father is my overpass.
Whatever I have to span,
he is strong enough
to travel over securely.
