Grandma told me when she was a little girl
Her Granny was so kind and sweet
Kissed her on the cheek and gave big hugs
And always talked about the Lord above

She was a church going woman
Coming from afar she had heard
That this was a free country,
to worship and feel free.
She told Grandma she cried when
they saw the statue of Liberty
They were in awe of this beautiful
Country land of the free

Free to worship, free to express ideas
And opinions. They had been oppressed.
I learned my Granny's ways that she had
learned from her Mother and Grandmother
When I was a little girl I learned how to
Cook, bake, sew, crochet and knit
Most of all to appreciate other people
Of all nationalities, race and religion

It's called respect Mama and Granny would say
Learning dance of ballet, Russian, Greek and
Other native dances was all so much fun
Live, love and enjoy others ways.

A new heart also will I give you,
and a new spirit will I put within you:
and I will take away the stony heart out of
your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh.
Ezekiel 36:26
