These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace.
In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer;
I have overcome the world.
John 16:33

He paid the Debt

Never forgotten though years ago
His act of love still prevails.
Almost alone with a bleeding heart
He hung on a tree of nails.

Dark clouds gathered up in the sky
a hush came over the land.
Still able to hear a cry for help
with nails buried deep in His hand.

As I look up Golgotha's hill, a dying man I see
It took three nails to hold Him there.
At least one of them belongs to me.
I looked up at Jesus, He was looking down at me.
The look that I saw said it all, He paid the debt for me.

He looked down and saw the crowd
their faith so weak and so frail,
It only caused Him to love them more
and bear the pain from the nail.

He cried out in anguish, "Father forgive"
as He hung on the pieces of that tree.
For without the shedding of His blood
He knew we could never be free

As I look up Golgotha's hill, a dying man I see
It took three nails to hold Him there.
At least one of them belongs to me.
I looked up at Jesus, He was looking down at me.
The look that I saw said it all, He paid the debt for me.

The look that I saw said it all,
He paid the debt for me.

I am the resurrection, and the life:
he that believeth in me, though he were dead,
yet shall he live:
