A Mother never says goodbye
For she is our heartbeat deep within,
We loved her, she loved us
Before time could begin.

A Mother wafts in a fragrance sweet
In the beauty of a new day or colors in a room,
The fun of life or chocolate flavored dreams
And the gentle face upon the moon.

She is in the wrapping of a cookie packet
The movement of our hand at will,
The turn of our cheeky smile, the way we walk
A caterpillar crawling on our window sill.

We see her as we gaze into the sky
Watching the shape of clouds scudding by,
Can't we hear her when we chuckle
Her thoughts embedded deep inside.

And when we speak, oh there she is
In every word and song and rhyme,
Our mother can never ever die
When she's in us for all time.

Poetry From The Heart

"Youth fades; love droops, the leaves of friendship fall;
A mother's secret hope outlives them all."
~Oliver Wendell Holmes (1809-1894)~

Richer than Gold
You may have tangible wealth untold;
Caskets of jewels and coffers of gold.
Richer than I you can never be --
I had a mother who read to me.
~Strickland Gillilan~
