The Price He Paid

When Jesus' body buckled low
Beneath each heavy blow
Marred more than any other man
What was it He could know

If those whips ripped through His flesh
Until a man could not be viewed
Cheeks torn from every wrench
Deep pulsating pain as thorns alone would do
How did he muster up the heart
To extend past all, to reach Golgotha's hill
What was that soul within
That love, of stubborn will

Why did He not give in, escape
And call to be taken home
What greater, was the driving force
That made Him suffer all alone
Where was such light beyond the pain
Forseen joy, with death to overcome
What victory to cry with might
Life evermore, 'tis done!
Who is this God, this Savior Lord
Having sacrificial love for me
What is my heart to God almighty
That He would submit to man's cruelty
Just to set me free
Could He so want my friendship
To choose, to want to die
Expecting before all time the pain
Am I the reason why?

Soft Whispers from
Derry's Heart Poems © 2006
heartwhispers@iinet.net.au

He was despised and rejected by men, a man of sorrows, and familiar with suffering. Like one from whom men hide their faces He was despised, and we esteemed Him not. Surely he took up our infirmities and carried our sorrows, yet we considered Him stricken by God, smitten by Him, and afflicted. But He was pierced for our transgressions, He was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was upon Him, and by His wounds we are healed. We all, like sheep, have gone astray, each of us has turned to his own way; and the LORD has laid on Him the iniquity of us all. Yet it was the LORD's will to crush Him and cause Him to suffer, and though the LORD makes His life a guilt offering, He will see his offspring and prolong His days, and the will of the LORD will prosper in His hand. After the suffering of His soul, He will see the light of life and be satisfied by His knowledge my righteous servant will justify many
