We might hang up a shelf, whereon we keep belief
And fill it up with all we want and all we seek to keep.
Then try to fit some Jesus in, that shelf so full of stuff,
BUT, we will need to brush it clean
If we would know God's love.
For we can't add Jesus to the life, that we already planned
God knows the way to Him is only in His hand-
True faith is never God plus what, we think will suit us fine.
Like - a little Jesus, plus behavior, codes
We'd like to make divine.
There isn't any path, or act, or dress nor cultural way
To make us seem more wise, in all we do and say,
God will not mark us good, if we add a bit of Him
Like we might a hobby
Or a collector's thing.
'Tis only when we put Him first upon our shelf
As Our Saviour, Father, Friend
Will we in heaven dwell.

Poetry from the Heart
Even if we have nothing else,
we have all that is more
precious than the purest gold,
more desirable than the rarest diamonds,
more lasting that anything on this earth-
if we have the life of the Lord Jesus within.
