When the pilgrims landed in Plymouth Rock
in November 1620
They were met with friendly Indians
Who taught them how to make the harvest grow
Corn was new to them and turkey
For the first feast in America we know.

Though some could not write their names
God was with them when they left old England.
King James II sent them off on the Mayflower.
He hoped they would be safe
and never need return again.

Some still thought the world was flat,
Many did not make it due to sickness.
Their average age somewhere in the thirties.
We all know names upon the list,
John Alden, Willian Brewster, Robert Carter,
Francis Cooke, Pricilla Mullins and Myles Standish.

The Indians the pilgrims met were friendly
and taught the people how to live.
The pilgrims not only made the first Thanksgiving
They were the first here without a king.

So they made a law for all to have true freedom
Of religion and all people would be equal
for slavery had not begun.
Folk were kind, respectful of the Indians.
They lived in houses made of timber
and yes, John Alden did marry Pricilla Mullins.

Be proud you are American,
For the pilgrims brought to us
New meals, never known til then,
Like pumpkin pie, a sweet dessert of love.

Their character is something
we can now look in ourselves to build,
May we take our hearts back in history and be
faithful like the early pilgrims.

At the name of Jesus, ev'ry knee shall bow.
